Klatten fires early in China

Frenchwoman Johanna Klatten carded the only sub-70 round to lead the Sanya Ladies Open after the first round on Friday. The 27-year-old shot a three-under 69 to lead countrywoman Celine Palomar and Thailand&aposs Numa Gulyanamitta, who are both a stroke back in equal second. In hot and blustery conditions at Yalong Bay Golf Club in China, Klatten fired four birdies and a bogey in a solid performance. Australian Sarah Kemp heads a group of seven players at one under par. They include Britons Rebecca Hudson, Felicity Johnson and Becky Brewerton, Jade Schaeffer of France, German Caroline Masson and Finn Minea Blomqvist. Further down the leaderboard, Australians Stacey Keating and Frances Bondad are at even par and one over respectively. Current Order of Merit leader Carlota Ciganda opened with an even-par 72, while defending champion Frances Bondad is a further shot behind after dropping two shots on her last three holes.
