Kono Ready To Tee It Up At Open

Earning exemption following victory in the Australian Junior Amateur last April, Kono Matsumoto eagerly awaits her second birth into the Womens Australian Open. With her goal of becoming one of Australia’s next teenage professionals, Matsumoto looks forward to the opportunity to play and develop her game against the world’s best this week.

Kono’s golfing story is a great one, her golfing dream began at this very event. Only a few years ago she was ‘mucking around’ in the Golf Australia junior area and within a couple of weeks they had sent her a new set of clubs, the prize for having the most points! Now here she is, walking the fairways with the professionals!

Most of her time is spent at home club Victoria Golf Club which is situated across the road from Royal Melbourne Golf Club. She is confident playing amid the Sandbelt surrounds, ‘I like my chipping and putting right now, and I hit a bit shorter than the top pros. But straight and accurate works’.

Set to tee off early Thursday morning alongside Sarah-Jane Smith, we wish Kono Matsumoto all the very best in the 2015 Womens Australian Open.
