Kooringal GC set to host Primary Schools State Final

In its 14th year, the 2014 Primary Schools Golf event is a fantastic opportunity for thousands of young Victorians to experience golf.  Winners from Regional Qualifiers have earned a spot in The State Final, which is to be held at Kooringal Golf Club this coming Monday 1 December.

The Primary Schools Golf event is structured like a mini-tournament and offers players a mini-version of an actual golf course. Par 3s are only 100 metres long, while par 4 and par 5 holes measure only 200 and 300 metres respectively. With the partnership between Golf Victoria, School Sport Victoria and the PGA of Australia, the organisations are working together to grow the unique event to ensure that the first golfing experience for all players is a memorable one.

Last year’s participation numbers were well exceeded, with over 3,000 students playing in this year’s event across the state, 500 up from the previous year. This strong growth in participation attests to the success of this annual event and Golf Victoria’s mission to grow participation and passion for the sport.

Golf Victoria CEO Simon Brookhouse acknowledged the growth and importance of such an event to golf.

“It is fantastic to see so many young golfers enjoying this ever growing competition. To have over 3,000 entrants in 2014 is a testament to the growth of the primary school golf market. Golf Victoria is very proud of this event and we look forward to ongoing growth.

“It is again, wonderful to see that the Kooringal Golf Club will host the 2014 final and I would like to thank them for their ongoing support. I would also like to wish all the competitors the very best of luck and wish them well in their future golfing endeavours,” said Brookhouse.

Notable players in this year’s event are SSV Team Vic Captains Nathan Page (Northern GC) and Kay Bannan (Southern GC), both playing after recently returning from the national championships.
