Morning showers cleared up for the afternoon field for the first round of the Kooringal Senior Amateur. 43 men and 20 women participated in the second combined event on the Victorian Senior Calendar.
Alan Bullas of Commonwealth is the leader after round 1 with a score of 3 over par 74, carding front and back nines of square and 3 over respectively. Hot on his tail are Mick Streit on 76 and Kerry Boehm a further shot back on 77.
Coming in with the best nett score of the day was Ignatius Duivenvoorden of Yarram. The 12 marker and familiar face on the senior circuit carded a nett 67 to be leading by 3 shots from the duo of Boehm and Robert Hodson, both on nett 70.
Local knowledge proved to be helpful in the women’s section, with three Kooringal members at the top of the stableford leaderboard. Helen Grieve, Denis Doolan and Vera Lund were the only players above 30 points, coming in with 33, 31 and 30 points respectively.
Grieve is also the women’s scratch stableford leader on 19 scratch points, with fellow member Debbie Gorin on 17 scratch points and trio of Lund, Helen McSparron and Heather Harley tied a further shot back on 16 points.
Players will be back tomorrow morning for round 2 via an 8:30am shot-gun start.
