Krall Goes Back to Back & Pascoe Wins Triple Crown

Round 2 – Krall Goes Back to Back and Pascoe Wins Triple Crown

The final round to a massive week of golf for the Seniors climaxed today at the fabulous Tocumwal Golf Club which is ideally nestled alongside the Murray River. A frosty morning gave way early to the most splendid winter’s day, a polar opposite from yesterday afternoon. Players moved from the Presidents course to the equally impressive Captains layout this morning.

Having returned a scintillating two under par 70 yesterday, Guy Krall handed in a card for seven over 79 today to successfully defend his title and claim victory in this year’s Tocumwal Senior Amateur. The Yarra Yarra member was in fine form over the two days and seemed more than comfortable around both courses. However, Krall opened the door to his fellow competitors when he turned with a disappointing 43 but managed to steady the ship and come home with a level par 36.
Ian Frost (Bendigo) and Colin Wearne (Box Hill) finished on a tournament total of 152 to place three shots in arrears of the champion. Also noteworthy was The National’s Tony Briers and Commonwealth’s Alan Bullas a further two strokes back.
An exciting finish was in store for today’s final round in the women’s section with Helen Pascoe and Bobette Wilkinson tied on 81 heading into today. In the end it was Helen Pascoe that prevailed as the winner with another round of 81 to claim the triple crown this week following wins at Heathcote, Shepparton and today at Tocumwal.
It was a tussle in the men’s nett section with John Hoare claiming the honours after the 15 marker signed for rounds of 72 and 68. Hoare is certainly in a purple patch this year with three titles now to his name.
Five players finished three shots behind Hoare tied on 143 including Guy Krall, Trevor Pattinson, Brian Gray, Barry Webb and Kerry Bayly. In the end it was Kooringal’s Kerry Bayly that notched the others out on a countback with his great round of 70 this morning.
Tocumwal local Bobette Wilkinson finished on top of the leader board in the women’s handicap section. Playing from a handicap of 11, Wilkinson carded rounds of 70 and 84 to place a single shot ahead of Warragul’s Glenda Kelly.
Coomealla will host their annual Senior tournament from Monday 21 – Wednesday 23 July before the much anticipated Melbourne Sandbelt events kick off at Yarra Yarra on Monday 11 August.

Round 1 – Krall on Fire at Tocumwal

The Presidents course hosted the opening round of the Tocumwal Senior Amateur this afternoon. Players endured bitter cold conditions with temperatures barely reaching into double digits. The one saving grace for the 83 competitors was the fact that they remained dry for the entire day.

Defending champion Guy Krall (Yarra Yarra) shot a scintillating two under par 70 to sit in a fantastic position for back to back wins. Roger Stephens from Buninyong is three shots in deficit of Krall and will be hoping to close the gap come tomorrow. Playing in his first Senior event, Colin Wearne (Box Hill) is also in the hunt along with Tony Hyde (Rossdale) who finished on 74 apiece.
Helen Pascoe has one hand one the grand slam this week after shooting an eight over par 81 today. However, Tocumwal’s very own Bobette Wilkinson will be utilising all of her local knowledge and will be applying the heat to Pascoe when she tees off in the final group tied with the 2 marker.
Meanwhile Guy Krall has also taken the overnight lead in the nett component after carding a 67 from a handicap of 3 to lead Trevor Pattinson and Brian Gray by a single stroke. After signing for 71 nett, Dana McLean will be looking to hold her nerve and narrow the margin tomorrow on Bobette Wilkinson who heads the handicap sector following her 70 nett.
The big week of events will round up tomorrow morning when the final round commences at 9:00am on the Captains course.
