Kulacz simmers in Singapore

Australia&aposs Rick Kulacz is just two shots off the lead after the opening round of the King&aposs Cup in Singapore. Kulacz fired six birdies, an eagle and just the one bogey in an impressive seven-under 65 on Thursday and is within striking distance of overnight leader Mardan Mamat of Singapore. Mamat&aposs 63 was good enough to catapult him to the top of the leaderboard at nine under and he is one stroke clear of Thailand&aposs Supakorn Utaipat and Englishman Chris Rodgers in second at minus eight. Kulacz is one of five players in a share of fourth place at seven under, while there are a host of other Australians in touch. Tim Stewart (-4), Andrew Dodt (-3), Kunal Bhasin (-2), Darren Beck (-2), Adam Blyth (-2), Wade Ormsby (-1) and Marcus Both (-1) all fired rounds under par, while fellow Australians Unho Park and Darren Tan finished the day level with the card. Compatriots Adam Groom (+2) and David Gleeson (+6) weren&apost so fortunate on Thursday and have plenty of work to do to get back into contention.
