Lambert claims hotly contest Sand Greens

A capacity field of 172 players converged on Taroom Golf Club over the weekend, for the 2018 Qld Men’s Sand Greens Championship.

Champion (Bob Atfield Plate) Josh Lambert (Roma) claimed the 2018 championship with rounds of 69 and 70 to finish 3 under total.

Runner-up, 2015 champion Jacob O’Dell finished 1 shot back after chipping in on the last hole. And 2017 runner-up Matt Toomey finished in third on countback after a 3 putt bogey on the final hole, robbed him of a chance to force a playoff.

B Grade Champion – Robert Adcock (Taroom) finished 4 over total. Local knowledge proved too much, emerging a 4 shot victor over Noel Rogers from Tambo.

C Grade Champion (Ray Anderson Plate) – Doug Wooffindin (Mt Morgan) claimed the win by 2 shots from Boonah member Geoff Ball.

156 players joined in Friday’s Fourball Championship and it’s always a tight contest with winning scores. This year was no exception as Glen Herdman (Gracemere Lakes) and Joshua Antcliff (Rockhampton) defended their title with 50 points, one shot clear of father and son pairing Phillip and Cameron Hourn (Moura) with 49 points. Ronan Robinson (Blackall) and Barry Littlewood (Isisford) finished third, also with 49 points.

Stephen Newton, Robert Adcock and all the team of volunteers of Taroom Golf Club should be extremely proud of the hospitality shown to all players and for the condition of the golf course.

Thank you to sponsors City Golf Club and City Golf Club Motel. Their support allows clubs to host such events.

The sand greens community will next head to Tambo Golf Club where another full field is expected to contest the 2019 Qld Men’s Sand Greens Championship. Entries will open on the first Wednesday of March 2019.
