Judy Langford (Yarrawonga) has taken out the 2012 Women’s Country Championship defeating Rebecca Wright at Rich River in this morning. The pair were all square at the half way mark of the match but Langford proved too strong for the local on the back nine of the west course, winning 4/3.

Local member Rebbeca Wright will take on Judy Langford (Yarrawonga) tomorrow to decide the 2012 Women’s Country Championship. Wright defeated 2012 Veteran Champion, Jill Blenkey (Bright) 5/4, before continuing her solid play for the week beating Catherine Odgers (Wodonga) 4/3 in the Semi Finals. 2012 leading qualifier and Betty Kernot trophy winner, Reanna Matthews (Leongatha), won her first match 5/3 against Sandy Stewart (Portland), but Langford proved too strong in the Semi Final, defeated Matthews 1 up in a nail biting clash. Langford won the title in 2008, and will undoubtedly use that experience in the event come tomorrow.

Reanna Matthews (Leongatha) has continued her outstanding form for the week with an excellent final round of 74 in the Country Championships, taking out the leading qualifying position for the start of tomorrows knock out match play, as well as the Betty Kernot Trophy with a final score of 151.
First round leader Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) struggled on the final nine to finish with rounds of 76, 79, four shots behind Matthews. 2012 Par 3 Champion, Jessica Pickwick (Kilmore), is continuing her dependable, steady play that she has displayed over the past few months by qualifying second, just one shot behind the leader.
Local member, Rebecca Wright had a scintillating start today when she turned in 35, but finished with 78 for a Championship score of 155. Rounding out the qualifiers for tomorrow is Judy Langford (Yarrawonga) with 160, Jill Blenkey (Bright) and Catherine Odgers (Wodonga) on 163, and Sandy Stewart (Portland) on a total of 165.

Round one of the 2012 Women’s Country Championship and Glenelg Cup teed off today. A brisk morning on the Murray lifted to revel a perfect winter’s day with only the slightest breeze; ideal scoring conditions for the players. Both events have attracted recorded breaking fields, with 119 competing in the Country Championship and 128 players in the Glenelg Cup.
