Launceston Golf Club’s Cameron Bell, Greg Longmore, Joshua Molendyk and Mitch Van Noord fired to win a fourth Claremont Shield title last weekend.
The tournament was keenly contested at Prospect Vale with two strokes separating Launceston and defending champions Tasmania following Saturday afternoon’s foursomes round.
Launceston’s Bell and Molendyk leading the way for the Kings Meadows club and combining for a two-over-par round of 73.
Launceston’s second pairing of Longmore and Van Noord followed in second place on three-over-par with Tasmania’s Stuart Bonnitcha and Craig Christie third on four-over.
However Launceston was too strong on Sunday in the singles event with all four team members figuring in the top ten on the final individual leader board.
Bell was the best performed of the Launceston members winning the 36-hole gross title and contributing to the team’s total with rounds of 74 and 68, an even-par total of 142.
Van Noord and Longmore rounded out the best three for the club with six-over and seven-over-par respectively.
Tasmania Golf Club which was gunning for a twelfth title were runners-up on the final leader board at seventeen-over-par.
Best for Tasmania Golf Club were Andrew Phillips and Mark Schulze who tied with Mowbray’s James Pyke for second place on three-over-par.
Bonnitcha and Christie also performed well for the club in the singles rounds finishing in equal eighth and equal twelfth respectively.
Riverside Golf Club represented by Sam Manix-Geeves, Andrew McCarthy, Isaac Pinnington and Simon Rossiter placed third.
Launceston Golf Club also walked away with the Eric Bourke Memorial Trophy with a handicap total of 514.
