Launceston Golf Club’s Mitch Van Noord, Greg Longmore, Cameron Bell and Matt Marston fired to win a sixth Claremont Shield title today.
The tournament was keenly contested at Prospect Vale with two strokes separating Tasmania and a trio of clubs following yesterday afternoon’s foursomes round.
Andrew Phillips and Mark Schulze leading the way for the Tasmania Golf Club and combining for a one-under-par round of 70.
Tasmania was followed by Devonport, Prospect Vale and Royal Hobart Golf Club in equal second place all on one-over-par 72.
However, Launceston was too strong today in the singles event with three of the four team members figuring in the top five on the final individual leader board.
Marston, the best performed of the quartet and contributing to the team’s total with rounds of 68 and 75, a one-over-par total of 143.
Van Noord and Longmore rounded out the best three for the club with three-over and five-over-par respectively.
Wynyard Golf Club’s Craig Hancock took out the individual 36-hole gross prize with rounds of 69 and 68, a five-under-par total of 137.
Royal Hobart Golf Club, the 2002 champions, were runners-up on the final leader board at 15-over-par.
Best for Royal Hobart Golf Club was Richard Kube who placed equal third on the final individual leader board on three-over-par after rounds of 72 and 73, a total of 145.
The Wynyard Golf Club team of Craig Hancock, Jack Lakin, Brayden Field and Sam Lockyer placed third with Prospect Vale fourth.
Launceston Golf Club walked away with the Eric Bourke Memorial shield with a handicap total of 504½.
