Western Australian Minjee Lee and Victorian Su Hyun Oh will head to The Hamptons at the end of June to be hosted by World Number 10 Karrie Webb at the 2013 US Women’s Open at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, New York. As recipients of the Karrie Webb Series scholarships, Lee and Oh will spend the week shadowing 7-time Major champion Webb and use the experience to benefit their amateur and future professional careers. Now in its sixth year, Golf Australia High Performance Director Brad James said the program was a rare opportunity for elite amateur players to have this level of access to a player at a Major championship. Minjee and Su will learn an enormous amount from this experience. Getting to spend the week behind the scenes with a player of Karrie s experience and standing in international golf is a huge bonus for both girls in their ongoing development, James said. We are very grateful to Karrie for her ongoing support of the program and her generosity in hosting the girls after a 12 month battle in the Karrie Webb Series. Lee recently won the Australian Junior title in Perth following her Australian Amateur victory in January while Oh finished in a tie for second behind Webb at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters on the Gold Coast in February. The Karrie Webb Scholarships are awarded annually on the basis of the following criteria: performance in the Karrie Webb Series events, community work supported by the individual (either inside or outside of golf), performance as an ambassador for golf in Australia and overseas, exhibits outstanding demeanour both on and off the golf course and is an Australian citizen.
