Min Woo Lee and Matias Sanchez head a strong amateur presence into the Emirates Australian Open weekend action.
Five of the 18 who began the tournament will play all four rounds, with West Australian Lee still in the title hunt at one under and in a blockbuster Saturday pairing with reigning champion Jordan Spieth.
At the same 141 total is Sanchez, who conquered Lee in the final of the Australian Amateur Championship at Yarra Yarra earlier this year.
Rising American Charlie Reiter, Australian Junior champion Cameron John and Japan Open runner-up Takumi Kanaya are likely too far back at two over to realistically challenge for the Stonehaven Cup.
But at just three off the pace, all three are well in the running for the low amateur’s Silver Medal come Sunday afternoon.
