West Australian Minjee Lee has continued her domination of the 2011 Handa Junior Masters at The Vines Resort and Country Club with another sensation round of 5 under 65. Lee, who started the day at 7 under par, got off to a steady start with consecutive pars on her first two holes before commencing her birdie campaign on the par 5 third hole. She backed it up with another birdie on the par 3 fourth and again on the sixth, turning 3 under the card on the front nine. Another birdie on twelve saw the 16 year old taking absolute controlover the tournament before an unfortunate bogey on 14 halted her run. Once again though, she bounced back with further birdies on sixteen and the par 5 eighteenth to finish her round at 5 under par. Lee s consecutive rounds of 65 and 67 have seen her take a 5 shot lead over the next best placed girl, Anna Lim of Korea, who shot rounds of 66 and 71 to be 7 under the card. Lim had a shaky start to her round with a bogey s on the first, fourth and seventh holes with only one birdie on the par 4 fifth seeing her turn at 2 over par. A birdie run on the back 9 saw Lim finish her round at 1 under the card. 3 shots further back on 2 under par is Victoria s Su Hyun Oh who shot a strong 4 under 68 with only one blemish on her last hole, the par 5 eighteenth. Oh will join Lee, Lim and Jaimee Dougan of QLD in the final girls group teeing off at 9.42am for Round 3 of the Handa Junior Masters. In the boys field, overnight leader Jake Higginbottom of NSW received pressure from local WA favourite Oliver Goss and Queensland s Cameron Smith to create a 3 way tie for the lead on 6 under par. Higginbottom had a difficult day with 4 bogey s and 4 birdie s to finish his round square with the card and 6 under for the tournament. Australian Junior team member Oliver Goss showed consistent form with consecutive rounds of 69, jumping back into therace with Higginbottom and Smith. With birdies on the first and sixth holes, Goss turned 2 under par for the day with another birdie on ten finishing out his bogey free round. Cameron Smith of QLD followed his opening round of 4 under 68 with asecond round of 2 under 70 to tie up the field. Higginbottom, Goss and Smith will be joined in the final group by Jake McLeod of QLD who sits 2 shots back on 4 under par after a solid round of 68 today. The leading boys will tee off the first hole at The Vines Resort and Country Club tomorrow at 9.51am. Forecasts show increasing winds for Round 3 of the 2011 Handa JuniorMasters which will create exciting competition between both the girls and boys fields.
