Lee wants silverware for birthday

There are birthday presents, then there's the LPGA present Minjee Lee is wishing for tomorrow.

On her 22nd birthday, West Australian Lee will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Volvik Championship in Michigan after a bogey-free third-round 68 left her at 12 under.

A group of four women, including major champions I.K. Kim and Stacy Lewis, are at 10 under, while in even better news for Australia, Victorian Su Oh is on the next tier of five women at nine under after her own impressive 68.

And Sarah Jane Smith, of Queensland, peeled off her own 67 to roar up to to seven under and a share of 15th in Ann Arbor.

Perth's Hannah Green fired a one-under 71 to climb to T50 at two under to continue her impressive rookie campaign.

But all eyes will fall on the birthday girl, already enjoying a stellar season but without a victory since 2016.

Lee, a mmeber at Royal Fremantle, already has five top-seven finishes this year, and will chase what would be a fourth career LPGA title after a bogey-free third round took her past overnight leader Nasa Hataoka (74).

"I had a pretty solid day today, made no bogeys,” Lee said.

"Four birdies on the card, which is pretty solid for today."

After a two-hour rain delaye before she began her round, Lee said the greens firmed during play.

"I think just keeping it in play was pretty important," she said.
