LeFevre leads Australian Mid Amateur

Low scoring proved challenging in today’s first round of the Australian Mid Amateur Championship at Arundel Hills Country Club on the Gold Coast.

In the Men’s championship, Royal Canberra’s Jeff LeFevre is the leader by one shot after a two-over par 74.

Jeff carded three birdies on the 1st 8th and 11th holes, and bogeys on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 14th and 15th holes on the way to his 74.

Hot on his heels are Queenslander Ashely Grosvenor from Keperra Country Club and Rhys Watkins from Manawatu Golf Club in New Zealand who both carded 3-over par 75’s.

A pack of chasers including Matt Crandall (NSW), Daniel Nesbitt (NSW), Mark Boulton (VIC) and Adam Hawkins (QLD) are two of the pace after shooting 76. Defending Champion John McMiles (NSW) is also well in contention after an opening round of 78.

In the Women’s championship, scoring also proved tough for competitors. Queenslanders Robyn Callaghan from Oxley Golf Club and Dianne Benghamy from Cooroy Golf Club lead the way after shooting  a 14-over par 86.

Two shots off the pace are Jess Jenkins (QLD), Alex Belenogoff (Qld) and Robyn Tait (VNM) who carded 88.
