Leishman leaps into contention

A standout third round by Australian Marc Leishman has seen him join compatriot James Nitties four shots off the lead going into the final round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship. The Aussie duo are both on nine-under in equal ninth position and trail leaders Rory Sabbatini and John Mallinger who are tied together on 13-under-par. A seven-under 63 saw Leishman card the best round on day three, as he rocketed up from equal 36th at the halfway point of the tournament into contention with one round to play. Leishman, who started on the 10th tee, recorded three birdies from his first three holes and despite bogeying No.13 and 14, he rallied to register another six birdies to finish strongly. Nitties on the other hand could only manage a two-under 70 which saw him slip from his second-round position of equal third. Nitties reeled off six birdies, but bogeys at the 3rd, 7th, 10th and 15th holes proved costly. Meanwhile, Sabbatini and Mallinger ended the day as they started it. After beginning the third round out in front on eight-under, both shot five-under rounds of 65 at TPC Four Seasons to move two shots ahead of a group of three players. DA Points, who also carded a 65, was joined on 11-under by Dustin Johnson and England&aposs Brian Davis, who both signed for 66s. It could have been better for Johnson who racked up six birdies in his first eight holes to go out in 30 only to come home in 36. Kevin Streelman is three off the pace after a 64 and tied at 10-under with Glen Day and Briny Baird. John Senden and Robert Allenby are both on six-under in equal 23rd spot. Lower down the leaderboard, England&aposs Greg Owen and Scotland&aposs Martin Laird both shot 68s to sit three under. Elsewhere, at the BMW PGA Championship, Paul Casey goes into the final round with a three-shot lead over Dane Soren Kjeldsen. Casey, who has already won on the European Tour in Abu Dhabi earlier this year and recently recorded his first US PGA Tour victory in the Houston Open, will move to third in the world behind Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson should he win the 750,000-pound ($AU 1,532,300) first prize. Colin Montgomerie, earlier in the day, looked likely to be one of the players who would chase Casey all the way but he faded badly at the end of his third-round 69, posting three bogeys in four holes on the back nine.
