Australia’s Marc Leishman made 10 birdies and cardied his best round of the year to put himself in contention in the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur.
The world No. 24 is in contention for his first win of the year, tied for the lead with American Gary Woodland who went one lower with a second-round 61. They are both 14-under par through two rounds at TPC Kuala Lumpur.
“I did what I should do and it added up to a 62,’’ Leishman said after his round.
“The focus is keep doing what I’m doing. Hopefully I can drive it like I did the next two days, and keep rolling the putts in.”
Leishman won twice in his groundbreaking 2017 but has had a slightly frustrating 2018 that includes two second-place finishes (at the Byron Nelson and the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges) but no victories. This week could be his big chance as he winds up to the World Cup in Melbourne next month, where he will partner Cameron Smith in a strong Australian team.
Smith is tied 29th in Malaysia after rounds of 69-69.
MEANWHILE in South Korea, Australia's Minjee Lee also is firing at the LPGA Tour's KEB Hana Bank Championship, sitting at five-under par through two rounds, three off the lead.
