Lewis captures Founders Cup and rise to no.1 in world rankings

Stacy Lewis shot the day s best score of 64 to win the RR Donnelly LPGA Founders Cup by 3 shots over Ai Miyazato in Phoenix. Her win catapults her to no.1 in the Rolex World Rankings. Best placed Aussie, Lindsey Wright (pictured above) fired a bogey free round of 66 to jump 17 spots to tie 8th. Her round of 68,67,72 and 66 is impressive in her first competitive event in 2013 after missing the ALPG Tour season earlier in the year with a foot injury. But the day belongs to Lewis. This week s victory is her second consecutive win in the LPGA season and with her $US225,000 first place check, Stacy moves to 46th on the LPGA Career Money List with $US4,619,806.50. She will be the seventh player to take over No.1 in the Rolex World Rankings, joining Annika Sorenstam, Lorena Ochoa, Jiyai Shin, Ai Miyazato, Christie Kerr and Yani Tseng. Lewis will also be the second American to do so, the other being Kerr in 2010. In her post round interview, on being no.1, Lewis mentioned that to be no.1 is what everyone out here is working for . She added that I was super motivated by all that happened yesterday and I m just happy for Travis (caddy) . For the remaining Australians in the field, Karrie Webb could not maintain her form from yesterday and finished tied 18th. Another Queenslander, Katherine Hull-Kirk played consistent golf to finish tie for 23rd and Sarah Kemp shot a final round of even par (72) to finish tie for 59th.
