Lewis claims top ranking with LPGA win

Stacy Lewis is the new world number one in women&aposs golf, after storming to victory in the LPGA Founders Cup in Phoenix on Sunday. The 28-year-old began her final round four strokes behind leader Jee Young Lee from South Korea, but bolted home with an eight-under-par 64 to move to 23 under, taking a three-stroke win from Japan&aposs Ai Miyazato. Lewis, who also won the HSBC Women&aposs Champions event this month in Singapore, was in sublime form on Sunday, with nine birdies and a lone bogey at the par-four 12th seeing her take the title. In doing so, the American knocked Taiwan&aposs Yani Tseng – who finished in equal 59th – off the top of the rankings, a place she had occupied for the previous 109 weeks. American Angela Stanford took third place on 17 under, with a group of four women in a tie for fourth place on 16 under, made up of Americans Jessica Korda and Lizette Salas, Italian Giulia Sergas and Jee. Australian Lindsey Wright joined Americans Candie Kung, Nicole Castrale, Sydnee Michaels and Gerina Piller on 15 under in a share of eighth.
