Bianca Ling (13th Beach) defeated Kilmore’s Jessica Pickwick this morning to be crowned the 2013 Victorian Women’s Country Champion. The players were treated to warmer weather this morning, a welcoming change from the frosty conditions they faced earlier on in the week.
Pickwick was the 2012 Victorian Par 3 Champion, and is home on summer break from college in the US, where she is an active member of the Tartleton State women’s golf team in Texas. Ling captained the 2013 Victorian Junior State Team and was also a part of the winning Victorian Women’s State Team down at Royal Hobart in Tasmania earlier this year.
The 18 year old from 13th Beach came hot out of the gates, winning the first hole from the Kilmore youngster and making the turn at 2 up. It was no turning back from that point for Ling, capitalizing on her lead to win holes 10 and 14, finishing on the 15th hole to defeat Pickwick 4/3. The match was contested in a great spirit, and both players should be commended on their efforts this week.
