An accomplished 62 from Ryan Palmer has earned the American a one-shot lead after the first round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational in Texas. In what is a home event for the Amarillo-born Palmer, he made the most of calm conditions in the morning at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth to post an impressive opening round of eight under. Palmer went bogey-free on Thursday, with four birdies on the front nine followed by another four after the turn. The 36-year-old is looking for his fourth win on the PGA Tour, and his first since the 2010 Sony Open in Hawaii. Fellow American John Rollins is a shot back on seven under, not surprising given both he and Palmer are members at Colonial and have played the course together on occasion. Two Canadians, David Hearn and Graham DeLaet, are in a tie for third place on six under, where they are joined by Americans Morgan Hoffmann and John Peterson. That group is trailed by a chasing pack of six Americans on five under – Daniel Summerhays, Matt Every, Matt Kuchar, Tommy Gainey, Josh Teater and Jordan Spieth. Australian Marc Leishman, Swedes Carl Pettersson and Freddie Jacobsen, and Zimbabwe&aposs Brendon de Jonge are the best of the overseas contingent, part of a 10-way tie for 13th place on four under.
