Local Junior Wins Thurgoona Open

Stuart Fraser, Chief Executive Officer Golf NSW, was joined by Greg Aplin MP, Member for Albury, at Thurgoona Country Club & Resort to present the winner of the Murray District Golf Association Thurgoona Open with their invitation to play in the NSW Open.

“The Peter Thomson and Mike Wolveridge designed course was at its challenging best for the players with a quality field of amateurs teeing it up for a chance to win a place in this year’s NSW Open which is to be played at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club,” Stuart Fraser said.

“It was a true golfing test with Thurgoona’s couch fairways and bent grass greens ensuring the winner earned their victory and I congratulate the course Super and his team on their efforts in delivering a quality course for the event.

“The MDGA Committee did an outstanding job in staging the Open and it was very pleasing to see local junior member Liam Gransden shoot 71 off the stick to win his way into the NSW Open field,” Stuart Fraser added.

Greg Aplin MP, Member for Albury, said the initiative by Golf NSW to provide regional golfers with an opportunity to win automatic entry into the NSW Open is a winner.

“Tourism and golf go hand in glove in our local region and it will be very exciting to have one of our local golfers playing in the time honoured NSW Open this coming November.

“I congratulate Liam on his victory in the Thurgoona Open and wish him every success at Stonecutters Ridge,” Greg Aplin said.

Opportunities for golfers to win automatic entry into the 2015 NSW Open are still available –
