Hobart’s Pittwater and Llanherne Golf Clubs will host the 2016 Thyne Trophy for men and North vs South Plate for women this weekend.
Favourites to take out this year’s Thyne Trophy at Pittwater are the boys representing Northern Golf.
The northern boys are skippered by current Tasmanian men’s team and Launceston Golf Club member Greg Longmore.
Longmore’s squad this year resembles that of Launceston’s division one pennant team with Cameron Bell, Brett Churchill, Josh Molendyk, Christopher Sayer and Mitch Van Noord.
The remaining two making up the team include Mowbray’s James Pyke and Prospect Vale’s Jack Tregaskisjago.
The Northern team will be defending their title last won last year at the Devonport Golf Club.
The Southern Metropolitan Golf Association is expected to perform strongly and will be captained by Tasmania Golf Club’s Mark Schulze.
The Metropolitan line-up includes Tasmania Golf Club’s Nathan Gatehouse, Andrew Phillips and Paul Read, as well as Kingston Beach’s Matthew Glover, David Pretyman and Elijah Stanley.
Golf North West boasts a youthful yet talented side led by Captain/Manager and Ulverstone Golf Club member Cameron Allen.
Youngsters Brady Ludbey from Ulverstone and Joel Lunson from Devonport will benefit greatly from the experience.
Players from the Southern Country Association include Drew Roberts from Llanherne, Elderslie’s Dijon Barrett and New Norfolk Golf Club’s Sam Eiszele.
The North versus South Plate will be a keenly contested event with the South out to avenge their loss last year at Devonport.
The South have named 31-year-old Royal Hobart Golf Club member Brooke Oakley as Captain.
Tasmania‘s Zahara Lemon and Georgia Milbourne, along with Kingston Beach’s Jane Hyland will also be key players for the South.
Riverside Golf Club’s Amanda Smith will Captain the Northern team in their title defence.
Mowbray Golf Club’s Tayla Bennett, Penguin’s Kalynda Cowen and Ulverstone Golf Club’s Sarah Johnstone will play pivotal roles.
The Thyne Trophy is a round robin match-play tournament for men with each of Tasmania’s four Area Associations represented.
While the annual women’s North vs South Plate will see the two regions battle it out in foursomes and singles match-play.
Each team in the Thyne Trophy competition is comprised of eight members, however, a contest between two teams is determined by seven singles matches.
The Thyne Trophy and North vs South events will be played on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April.
