Locals Lead Early at Eureka Senior

Round 1 of the Eureka Senior Amateur kicked off today at Ballarat Golf Club. A field of 60 players took to the redesigned Thomson Perret course in chilly but sunny conditions, inspiring players across the board to post some very handy scores.  

Local legend Chris Tatt (Buninyong) has returned to the senior circuit and hit the top of the leaderboard of the men’s gross event, posting a fantastic 3 under par today. Tatt will take a 3 shot lead into the final round tomorrow over Brian Harris (Wagga Wagga) who returned and an even par round today, and Roger Stephens (Buninyong) who sits a further shot back.

Ignatius Duivenvoorden takes a one shot lead into the final round of the nett section, posting the best score in today’s round of a nett 64. The Yarram member leads 14 other players who played under their handicap today, including Stephens and Rob Ryan (Ballarat) who can capitalise on their local knowledge tomorrow.

Kerrin Biddle (Thirteenth Beach) will take a 5 shot lead in the gross women’s section after posting a solid round of 31 gross points. Trailing behind in second position is Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) who has played many a round at Midlands over the years, guaranteeing an exciting finish tomorrow afternoon.

Biddle is also currently sitting in second position in the women’s Stableford event, one point behind leader Marg Llewellyn (Bellarine Lakes) who totalled an even 36 points. Helen McSparron (Buninyong) is looking to make a move tomorrow, 33 points today keeps her well in the hunt for the title.

The second and final round moves across to Midlands tomorrow for an 8:30am start.
