The 2019 Queensland Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championship will be played at Logan’s Carbrook Golf Club from Tuesday, July 2 to Friday, July 5.
More than 160 boys and girls from Queensland, interstate and overseas will contest one of Australia’s most prestigious junior golf tournaments.
Logan City Council City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson Councillor Steve Swenson said Logan was proud to be supporting this year’s championship, which has gone from strength to strength over the last five years
"This event will play a significant role in the development of potential future world number one golfers,” Cr Swenson said.
“On display will be the best of our junior talent and among them are what we believe are some golfing stars of the future.
“Our city has a proud golfing history with former world No.1 golfer Jason Day being a product of Hills International College at Jimboomba.
“Having the state championships in our city gives our local players the chance to be part of this significant junior tournament including young hopefuls like defending champion Zubair Firdaus,” Cr Swenson said.
“The Malaysian-born teen is also a Hills College student and was the college’s golf academy college champion in 2018.”
Golf Australia’s Queensland State Manager Luke Bates said Carbrook, who were awarded the 2018 Junior Golf Program of the Year at the recent PGA Industry Awards night, was a great fit for the championships.
"We are thrilled to have the support of Logan City Council in delivering this key championship,” Mr Bates said.
The first two rounds of stroke play of the championships, on Tuesday and Wednesday July 2 and 3, will be contested by 164 players.
A cut will then be made leaving the leading 50 boys and 20 girls to battle for the championship trophies on Thursday and Friday, July 4 and 5.
A great initiative of the championship is the J&R McCracken Plate which enables those players who have missed the cut to compete in a separate event over the final two days, guaranteeing those players four rounds with their peers.
The championship is open to male and female amateur golfers under the age of 18, with a Golf Australia Handicap or international equivalent. Handicap limits apply for the championship.
Sanctuary Cove’s Isabelle Taylor claimed the 2018 Girls’ title.

The championships will come on the back of Windaroo Lakes Golf Club securing the PGA Trainee Championships for the next two years.
