Long leads at WA PGA

Veteran New Zealander Michael Long has fired an opening round of 68 to open up a one-shot lead at the WA PGA. With strong winds making scoring tough, Long carded six birdies and two bogeys in an impressive display to take the clubhouse lead at four-under after one round. Compatriot Mark Purser sits a further shot back in outright second at three-under, while defending champion Jason Norris and veteran Queenslander Peter Senior were among a group of four players to card opening rounds of 70. Only 10 golfers managed to break par in the trying conditions, with New South Welshman James Nitties (75), Western Australian Jarrod Moseley (76) and Victorian Euan Walters (77) among the players to struggle on the opening day.
