LPGA of Japan – MITSUKA WINS SEASON OPENER AS DURDIN AND CAMPBELL POST TOP-10’S

rnJapanese 24-year-old, Yuko Mitsuka won the season-opening Daikin Orchid Ladies Golf Tournament on the weekend with a four round total 8-under par 208. She was followed home by compatriots Erina Hara and Ayako Uehara, who finished two shots behind Mitsuka.
rn
rnHeading into the final round, Mitsuka held a 2-shot lead over Uehara after firing a flawless 6-under par 66 in the second round to reach 8-under par. Australia’s Tamie Durdin was four shots back in third place at 4-under par.
rn
rnAfter a flying start where the overnight leader picked up two birdies in the first four holes, she then made three bogeys in her next six holes to bring the rest of the field back into the tournament. However, back-to-back birdies from the 11th hole saw her stretch her advantage as Uehara could only manage par golf.
rn
rnThere was further drama to come when Mitsuka bogied both the 14th and 15th holes with the lead reduced to one shot. Again Uehara couldn’t take advantage as she made bogey on the 16th to leave Mitsuka with a two-shot advantage with two holes to play. Both players parred in to hand Mitsuka her third career title. Afterwards she said, “I&aposve never experienced such nervousness in a tournament before. I really didn&apost know what the heck I was doing at some points. I&aposm really relieved to have won the title. I want to continue winning in this way from now on.”
rn
rnBoth Australians posted solid Top-10 results with Tamie Durdin finishing in a tie for 4th at 5-under par total 211, just three strokes behind the winner. Nikki Campbell was only a stroke further back in a tie for 9th after a fine round of 68 on the last day.
