A 7-under par round of 64 has seen Curtis Luck soar up the leaderbaord to finish in a tie for 5th at the ISPS Handa Global Cup at Tokinodai Country Club on the Japan Tour.
Luck’s 64 was the equal best round of the day, finishing on 13-under with rounds of 70, 68, 69 and 64.
Not only did Luck’s total match that of 2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel, he finished above three time major winner Padraig Harrington and two time European Tour winner Victor Dubuisson on 12-under par.
But Luck was not the best placed of the Aussies. with Queenslander Brad Kennedy impressing yet again on the Japan Tour with a T3 finish on 15-under par — pocketing just over $75,000 in the process.
Luck was the only amateur to make the cut, and bypassed the AU$47,000 in prizemoney given to Schwartzel, New Zealand’s Michael Hendry and Japan’s Tetsui Hiratsuka in fifth place.
Having tasted victory in a professional event earlier in the year at the Nexus Risk TSA Group WA Open, Luck finished four shots back of potentially adding another professional title to his resume.
Luck was bogey free on the final day which started in the best possible manner with an eagle on the par-5 first hole and birdie on the second.
Luck closed just as strongly with four birdies on the back nine including a run of three straight between the 14th and 16th holes.
