Curtis Luck knows his US PGA Tour card is close, but he is still in a waiting game as he plays the Web.com Tour Championship in Florida.
Perth’s Luck began nicely with a five-under par 67 in the first round at Atlantic Beach Country Club today, but saw his projected ranking dip down.
The top 25 players on the points table at the end of this week are handed cards for next season, and Luck began the tournament ranked 16th.
But he was projected 24th on that list by the end of the day, good enough but only just.
Tomorrow shapes as a big day in the life of the 22-year-old from Perth, winner of the US amateur championship and now trying to make his way as a professional.
Cameron Davis and Matt Jones have already secured their cards for next season
Davis began with a 66 today while Jones is not even playing, having achieved what he wanted to do.
Victorian Aaron Baddeley, who is also in a battle for a card, began with a 69 but currently sits just outside where he needs to be.
New South Welshman Brett Drewitt was the best of the Aussies today, carding a 65. Drewitt needs a big finish this week to get his US Tour playing card.
