Lutterus stays in touch

Australian David Lutterus remains in the hunt at the halfway mark of the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Lutterus followed up his opening round 65 with a solid one-under-par second round of 69 to be within two shots of leader John Merrick at El Camaleon Golf Club. Merrick, the frontrunner after 18 holes, maintained his position at the top of the heap with a round of 68 to go eight-under-par. Hot on the heels of the American leader is compatriot Brian Gay. Gay fired a second round 67 to draw within one stroke of Merrick. Australia&aposs Michael Sim replicated his opening-round 69 on day two to be two-under-par at the turn, one shot to the better of countrymen Matt Jones (72) and Peter Lonard (71). Other Australians to make the cut were Nick Flanagan (66), Steve Allan (72), Gavin Coles (73) and Brett Rumford (73).
