Lydia Ko Leads Into Final Round

 (26 August 2012 – Coquitlam, BC, Canada)

rn

U.S. Amateur Champion Lydia Ko is only one round away from becoming the youngest winner in LPGA Tour history at the 2012 CN Canadian Women&aposs Open.

rn

The 15-year-old from New Zealand carded an even par round of 72 at The Vancourer Golf Club.  Her round included three birdies and three bogeys including, unfortunately, one at the 18th.  The 2012  Bing Lee / Samsung NSW Women&aposs Open champion sits alone at the top of the leaderboard at 8-under-par and just one shot clear of her professional rivals.

rn

If Ko can win tomorrow, she would be just the fifth amateur to win on the LPGA Tour and the first since JoAnne Carner in 1969.

rn

It will be a fantastic learning experience no matter what happens tomorrow.  As she has said all year, playing in professional events is such a great learning experience, and playing in the final round will certainly help in years to come.

rn

Leading the chase is Rolex Ranked World No.2 Stacy Lewis, former Rolex World No.1  Jiyai Shin, recent Evian Masters champion Inbee Park and co-leader after round two, Chella Choi (72). Lewis catapulted into contention with a third round of six-under-par 66.

rn

The American pair of Sydnee Michaels and Moira Dunn share sixth position at five-under-par, with another five players at four-under-par.

rn

Of the Australians Karrie Webb (71) is tied for 21st position at one-under-par total, with Katherine Hull (72) a further shot back and shares 29th position.  Sarah Jane Smith didn’t have the best of days and is tied for 74th after a round of 78.
