Macpherson’s triumph in China

Australian Bryden Macpherson has won a tournament on the China Tour, his third victory in that country over the past three years.

Melburnian Macpherson, 26, carded a final-round 64 to reach a playoff at the Fragrant Hills International, then parred the 17th hole to beat South Korean player Rak Hyun Cho.

Macpherson won twice in China in 2015 when the tour was known as the PGA Tour China. It  is now being run by the China Golf Association.

“I didn’t think I would have any chance of catching any of the leaders at the start of the day and I guess I was lucky enough to be at the right position at the right time,” Macpherson told the China Tour website. “I haven’t been making many putts during the week but I managed to hole many putts today and played really solid.

“I told myself to stay patient as you never know what can happen. And then, here we are. I was trying not to think too much of the scores when I played but I thought if I could get to eight or nine-under-par, I may have a chance.”
