Major Pennant Finals

It is finals time in the 2013 Men’sSrixon Major Metropolitan Pennant with Semi-Finals and Relegation contests conducted over the weekend. These contests determined who will be progressing through to the final in a fortnights time for the chance to win their divisional pennant, and also those clubs who will be moving up a division in 2014. Manly Golf Club hosted the Division 1 Semi-Finals and it was Long Reef who upset Bonnie Doon four matches to three to win a place into the final. In doing so they created history with it being the first time in the clubs 91 year history they have had a team that has reached the heights of a Division 1 Final. Long Reef will be facing off against last year s Division 1 winners St.Michael s who accounted for Moore Park five matches to two. St.Michael s in recent years have proved to be the team to beat winning two out of the last three Division 1 pennants that have been on offer. The final is to be played at the recently opened Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club which is the perfect scene to host what should be a tightly contested match up. In Division 2 it will be Antill Park squaring off against Monash after both clubs had reasonably comfortable victories over their competitor s on Sunday. Antill Park s progression into the final caps off a remarkable rise for the club moving up to Division 1 next year after elevation from Division 3 last year. Monash have been clinical to date only dropping one contest in the round stages and squaring another. Concord is the venue for the Division 2 Final on the 7th of April. Bayview and Windsor in Division 3 proved to be far too good on the day against Woolooware and Killara respectively achieving narrow victories. Bayview had a slow start winning only one of their first three matches however the final four players helped carry the team through to the final squaring one of the matches and winning the remaining three. Windsor started much better winning the opening two matches and doing enough to achieve two other victories in the remaining four match play contests. Long Reef Golf Club is the host for the Division 3 Pennant Final. In Division 4 it has turned out to be a battle of the west with Wallacia Panthers versing Richmond in the final. Wallacia Panthers achieved a narrow victory over Camden Lakeside four matches to three whilst Richmond won 4 matches to Macquarie Links 2 match wins. Windsor will play host to this final. It is Marrickville and Gordon who will be moving up to Division 4 next year after both had victories in their matches. Marrickville scraped through against RAE Golf Club by winning one extra match whilst Gordon proved far too strong for Palm Beach on the day winning 5 out of the possible 7 matches that were up for grabs. The final will be played at Northbridge Golf Club.
