Margot Robbie tip to play Jan Stephenson

Newly elected World Golf Hall of Fame member Jan Stephenson is hoping to have a movie made of her legendary career.

Speaking on Golf Australia’s “Inside The Ropes” podcast today, Stephenson said one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses wanted to portray her rise from young Sydney athlete to become the face of the LPGA Tour.

“We’ve talked about doing a movie, Margot Robbie wants to play me,” Stephenson said.

“They want to finish the story in 1982, which is kind of strange and halfway through everything (in my career), but it’s more about making it from Australia.

“We’re very close to negotiating it and finishing (the deal).

“(It’) more about breaking the barrier with the female thing and coming from Australia and being the image of the LPGA Tour – it’s pretty exciting in so many ways.”

Stephenson, who was earlier this year honoured with an Order of Australia for her contributions to golf and her fundraising efforts for non-profit organisations around the world, said her recognition for both awards were among the highest honours in an extraordinary career that included winning three major championships.
