Germany s Caroline Masson sits atop of the leaderboard at seven-under-par after the opening round of the inaugural North Texas LPGA Shootout being played at the Las Colinas Country Club, Irving, Texas. The rookie player posted a flawless round of seven birdies in her round of 64. She got off to a perfect start with a birdie on her opening hole, the par 5 10th, she then posted another two birdies on the 13th and 18th holes to go out in three-under-par, 32. The 2012 South African Women’s Open champion then flew home with another four birdies, including back-to-back birdies on her last two holes. Another rookie, Spain s Carlota Ciganda, who was the number 1 player on the LET in 2012, is two shots behind, while another five players are at four under par including South Korean and current Rolex World No. 1 Inbee Park. New South Wales Sarah Kemp is the leading Australian after the first round, she posted an even par round of 71 to be tied for 32nd position. Queensland s Sarah Jane Smith, New South Wales Julia Boland and Victorian Lindsey Wright are all at two-over-par and share 70th position. Unfortunately Katherine Hull-Kirk had a disappointing round of 77 and is well back in a tie for 126th. Australian Karrie Webb, along with a number of other top players, is having the week off.
