Match play finalists decided at SA Junior Amateur

Junior&aposs from the state&aposs South Eastern district continue to impress, with Mt Gambier players Cory Baker and Will Somerfield emerging as top qualifiers for the match play section of the SA Junior Boy&aposs Amateur which starts on Thursday morning at The Vines of Reynella Golf Club. Baker and Somerfield finished the 36-hole stroke play qualifying on 146, level with overnight leader Dylan Thomas (Blackwood) and a shot ahead of Glenelg&aposs Lachlan Booth and Tea Tree Gully&aposs Jacin Cook (both 147). Somerfield, the winner of last week&aposs Golf SA Junior Masters at Royal Adelaide, carded a solid second round 1-over par 71 while Baker continued his consistent play with a second consecutive round of 73. the top qualifiers will be joined in Thursday&aposs Match Play by Ben Snell (Blue Lake), Sam Earl (The Vines) and Jack Williams (The Grange). In the Girl&aposs division, Elysia Yap (pictured) continued her good recent form in holding off fellow Glenelg member Jenny Lee to finish top qualifier. Yap, who finished T2 behind Lee at last week&aposs Junior Masters at Royal Adelaide, earned her top spot courtesy of a solid second round 76 to go with yesterday&aposs round of 81 to finish three shots clear. Wirrabara&aposs Acacia Curtis continued a good run of form for regional players in finishing third with rounds of 85 and 79, while Mt Osmond&aposs Rachel Taylor will be another strong contender for the overall Amateur title after finishing fourth with back-to-back rounds of 85. In the Junior Girl&aposs B Grade Cup, interstate visitor Jacqueline Walter (Broken Hill) was the runaway winner after carding rounds of 95 and 94 (189), finishing 11 shots clear of Wirrabara&aposs Samantha Stevens. In the Junior Girl&aposs Stableford Competition (handicaps 28 -45), Zoe Taylor (Mt Osmond) announced herself as a player of the future after an excellent second round 43 stableford points saw her jump clear of second placed Monique Ware (Royal Adelaide). The Match Play section of the 2011 Golf SA Junior Amateur titles will be played at The Vines of Reynella Golf Club commencing Thursday morning.
