Matheny scoops the field in the Silver Spoon

Challenging blustery conditions greeted the one hundred and eight competitors who took to the Sanctuary Lakes club for the 2014 edition of the Silver Spoon State final.

The event which was first played in 1921, begins at club level, where one hundred and seventy two clubs crowned their club winners this year which determined the competitors eligible to compete in today’s state final on behalf of their respective clubs.

Congratulations must go out to all competitors for reaching the state final, in doing so each player takes home their own individual silver spoon as a memento of their achievement.

Taking the Burtta Cheney Trophy for overall honours & morning field winner for this year’s event was Jennifer Matheny representing Heritage Golf Club off a handicap of 11 with 36 stableford points c/b.

Matheny used past local knowledge to her advantage being a former member of Sanctuary Lakes to sneak home in this year’s event on a countback.

Overall Runner-up and afternoon field winner in this year’s event was Camperdown’s Jeanette Lambell with a score of 36 stableford points c/b playing off a handicap of 32.

Runner-up in the morning field was Karen Gardner of Kilmore with 35 points off a handicap of 19, with Jennifer Mellett representing Carrington Park claiming runner-up honours in the afternoon field with a score of 36 points c/b.

Golf Victoria would like to thank all participating clubs & competitors for their continued support of this event, whilst looking forward to the 2015 edition at the Kew Golf Club.
