The 2017 Traralgon Classic has kicked off in fine conditions today out in West Gippsland at the Traralgon Golf Club.
Newly restructured this year to include a women's section, the event saw a solid field of 60 men and 7 women tee off this afternoon. With current amateur exemptions finalised for the 2017 Oates Vic Open, it can be confirmed that the respective Men’s & Women’s winners of the Traralgon Classic will gain starts into the field down at 13th Beach Golf Links on 9-12 February.
Harrison Whykes is keen to chase his ticket into the Oates Vic Open, jumping out the gates this afternoon with a solid score of 4 under par 68. The Settlers Run member recorded 5 birdies and an eagle en route to a total of 4 under the card. He leads by 2 shots from local member Tom Couling (Commonwealth/Traralgon) and Brett Kellow from Mooroopna.
In the women’s field, Kono Matsumoto of Victoria carded a 4 over par 75 to be leading by a mere shot. Following closely behind at a pair of Commonwealth members Sheradyn Johnson and Maddie Peters, both recording scores of 76.
