The rescheduled Mazda Vic Fourball round at Shepparton took place today, the last venue to host a qualifying event this year. With the temperature for the original date expected to hit the 40-degree mark, this morning’s top of 26 was a relieving change.
The best score for the day came from local men’s pair Trent McCrae & Brad Willaton. The pair combined well for a spectacular score of 50 points, however they were only narrowly able to secure one of the very few remaining spots in the state final over runners- up Justin Ryan (Quarry Hill) and Paul Bowe (Bendigo), 3 points behind on 47. The third place getter had to be decided by a three-way countback, with third place honours being awarded to Shawn Anderson (Mooroopna) and Darren Duckworth (Shepparton).
In the women’s section, Sonya Hill and Julie Harris from Shepparton led the way with a great 43 points. Following closely behind by 2 points was a visiting pair from the Commercial Albury Club, Sue Barber and Lyn Vildovas, and a further 2 points back sat third places’ Marie Brown and Carolyn Scott, both from Shepparton.
The mixed section was similarly as close, winning and taking a place in the final was Stephen and Vivien Harding (Shepparton), combining well to total and excellent 45 points. Coming in a close second place was Tristen Wearne (Heathcote) and Ian Frost (Bendigo), 4 shots ahead of Colin Gardner (Melton Valley) and Sharron Matters (Romsey) with 39 points.
The field for the final rounds at Sorrento and The National will be finalised this week, pairs progressing to this event will be notified and will be sent Player Information and Draw documents.
