Mazda Vic Four-Ball players light up Ballarat

Beautiful sunshine greeted players today at Ballarat GC with record breaking scoring from our winners. The Mazda Victorian Four-Ball Championship venue proved to be a popular choice for players as a capacity field was reached with multiple pairs on the waiting list missing the call up.

A brand new Mazda2 from Todd Sainty and his team at Ballarat City Mazda was up for grabs on hole 2 but unfortunately no one took home the keys. Domenic Lombardi from Sands Torquay mistimed his luck and decided to hole in on the par 3 11th instead, but was thrilled to end his round on a high note. Fantastic effort from Domenic!

Neil Parker & Mathew Sposato tore away from the field with a spectacular score of 54 points, taking home the trophies for the day and securing them a spot in the final at Sorrento & The National GCs on Monday 21 & Tuesday 22 March. The Melton Valley pair’s round included a phenomenal 28 points on the back nine to win by 4 shots from runner-up pair Graeme Baker & Terry Evans (Northern) on 50 points. Coming in third on a count-back on 49 points was Shane Russell & Garry Gunnell of Bendigo.

The women’s & mixed sections were combined today due to the total field size, with Ann Mackintosh (Queens Park) & Alex Wilson (13th Beach) taking home first place honours and a state final position. The pair combined perfectly for a total score of 46 points. Runners up & third place were Heritage pairs May & David Leung, and Carl & Jeannette Stevenson on 45 and 43 points respectively.

Warrnambool GC also hosted a qualifying round today, with results to be posted shortly.
