McCarthy, a former Trans Tasman Cup and Southern Cross Cup Australian representative, defeated South Carolina&aposs Daniel Bowden in the Round of 64 and Maryland&aposs Brent Martin in the Round of 32 He lost 6&4 to Scott Langley – who played in the US Open Championship at Pebble Beach in June. McCarthy opened the championship stroke play rounds with a 3-over par 74 at Chambers Bay Golf Club but bounced back with a 3-under par 69 on the Home Course – the assisting course for the championship. Western Australian Jason Scrivener finished agonisingly short of the match play section, missing the cut by one stroke. Scrivener had posted a second round 68 following his opening round 82. Korean born Melbourne resident Jin Jeong missed the cut with rounds of 74 and 79.
