McFarlane & Walters take Warrnambool title

The final round of this year’s Warrnambool Senior Amateur concluded on Wednesday morning as players headed out under clear skies looking to improve upon their scores from Tuesday’s opening round.
 
Both leaderboards were tight at the top heading into the final round, with only two shots separating the top five men & two stableford points separating the top five women.
 
At the conclusion of play in the women’s event, it was Warrnambool local Rosemary Walters who took this year’s title finishing with a two round stableford points total of 69 points playing off a handicap of 27. In second place was another Warrnambool local Beryl Drake who finished on a two round total of 63 stableford points with Tricia Sullivan rounding out a Warrnambool treble finishing in third place with a two round stableford points score of 62 points.
 
In the men’s championship, Ross McFarlane led from start to finish to take this year’s title with a two round total of 156 giving the Barwon Valley local a two shot win.
 
Fellow Barwon Valley member Peter Thompson finished in second place on a two round total of 158 with David Mallett (The Sands Torquay) & Ray Walker (Chrinside Park) finishing in third place on 160.
 
In the nett event, Warrnambool had another winner in Robert Smyth who took this year’s nett title by four shots finishing on a two round nett total of 143 from a handicap of 16 with Paul Fink (RACV Cape Schanck) finishing second on a nett score of 147.

The next event on the senior calendar is the Box Hill Senior commencing on Friday 10 April, followed by The National Senior Masters on Tuesday 14 April to Thursday 16 April and the Cobram-Barooga Senior event on Monday 4 May to Thursday 7 May.
