McIlroy surges over flat Scott

Adam Scott will need to come from behind if he is to win the Cadillac Championship tomorrow.

The Australian began the third round with a two-shot lead that was quickly swallowed up by playing partner Rory McIlroy at Doral today; by the end of the day it was three shots McIlroy's way.

McIlroy, the world No. 3, outplayed Scott on the day, carding a 68 to Scott's moderate 73.

The Northern Irishman has drawn huge benefit from his switch to left-hand-low putting this week.

Scott made three bogeys — at the fourth, 13th and 17th holes — and just two birdies for the day as nothing happened for him.

"I've seen Rory play some great golf," Scott said. "I think he's going to be very satisfied with that round. Looked like he was under total control."

McIlroy is at 12-under par. Dustin Johnson and Scott, both at nine-under, will begin the final round as his closest challengers.

World No. 1 Jason Day is tied-30th, having a quiet week.
