Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods missed the cut as Justin Rose claimed the outright lead at the Abu Dhabi Championship. World number one McIlroy, who carded a three-over 75 in the opening round, shot the same score second time around to miss the cut by four strokes. Woods would have made the cut before he was penalised two strokes for wrongly thinking he had a free drop when his ball became entangled in weeds on the fifth hole. The world number two, who had never missed the cut in 21 previous European Tour appearances, bowed out with an underwhelming 75 after opening with a 72. There were no such issues for world number five Rose, who fired an impressive 69 to take a one-stroke advantage at the top of the leaderboard. Welshman Jamie Donaldson, the joint overnight leader with Rose, Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Denmark&aposs Thorbjorn Olesen were tied for second at seven under. South Africa&aposs Garth Mulroy and Dutchman Joost Luiten were a further two shots behind in equal fifth, while Italian Matteo Manassero and Germany&aposs Martin Kaymer led a group of eight players in a share of seventh at four under. Andrew Dodt climbed up the leaderboard after posting a 70 to be the best placed Australian in equal 36th, while Marcus Fraser and Richard Green were in a tie for 60th at two over.
