McNeill fries the field

Rookie American George McNeill claimed his maiden PGA Tour title with a four-shot victory at the Frys.com Open in Las Vegas. The 32-year-old began the day with a five-stroke lead and he never looked like relinquishing that over the TPC Summerlin course. McNeill, whose previous best was joint third at the Canadian Open, carded a five-under-par 67 to finish 23 under, with DJ Trahan only able to close the gap by one after he had a 66. Mansfield&aposs Greg Owen shot a 69 to lift himself into a share of 30th on eight under and he was joined on that mark by Londoner Brian Davis, who had 68. New Zealander Phil Tataurangi headed the Australasian contingent, finishing in a tie for 14th on 11-under after firing a final round of 71. Australian Stephen Leaney began the final round in a share of eighth place but shot a disappointing two-over par 74 saw him slip back to 21st on nine-under, equal with compatriot Mathew Goggin. Gavin Coles (69) grabbed a tie of 50th on five-under, one shot ahead of Jarrod Lyle (71). Result from the Frys.com Open (par 72) -23 George McNeill 66 64 67 67 -19 D.J.
