Meet the stars of Whittlesea Golf Club

MyGolf has always provided kids with a fun, accessible and engaging introduction to the sport of golf, and quite often it also produces some unique and outstanding talent.

There is no exception to this rule at the Whittlesea Golf Club, with PGA Professional Dan Cromie sharing the story of two young MyGolfers who are grabbing the attention of members around the club.

Mitch King and Lucas McDonald have both been involved with Whittlesea Golf Club for several years now and it is becoming clear they have learnt a lot along the way.

Both players have been active and impressive in two of the biggest rookie golf events within Victoria, the Stuart Appleby Rookie series and the Victorian Primary Schools golf event.

A highlight for the two boys was the recent primary schools golf event at Northern GC where the boys competed together in the same field and finished in 1st Place (Lucas) and 5th Place (Mitch) amongst a strong field of competitors.

The MyGolf team conducted a Q & A session with both players recently to try and dive a little deeper into the minds of these young stars.

What golf event do you look forward to playing in the most each year?

(Lucas) I like playing in the Stuart Appleby Rookie Series event at Oakleigh which is a par 29 course, and includes 7 par 3’s and 2 par 4’s. It’s played twice a year, and on the second time, I get to play in a ‘Fambrose’ event with my older brother Cameron.

(Mitch) I look forward to playing the Primary School golf event, but I’m just happy playing anywhere anytime.

What’s the funniest thing you have seen on the golf course?

(Lucas) The funniest thing I’ve ever seen was when I was playing holes in my Saturday morning clinic and there was a small dam by the tee box which was covered in red algae. My coach told one of the boys that he could walk across it if he wanted to. Then when he tried to, he fell in the dam up to his knee and his shoe filled up with water. We all thought it was hilarious and we started laughing.

(Mitch) The funniest thing I have seen on a golf course is when my pink ball got swooped and taken by a crow, so I learnt my lesson, don’t use pink golf balls.

What’s the strangest talent you have?

(Lucas) I don’t know, but my parents would say that I could find, pick out and get rid of vegetables in any dinner they serve up to me.

(Mitch) I don’t think I have a special talent I just think I’m normal.

If you could have any superpower, which would you choose?

(Lucas) I’d like to be able to fly because it would be fun to fly around the golf courses.

(Mitch) My super power would be either to have a short game like Phil Mickelson if that is a super power, or to have super strength.
