Men’s NSW Senior Championship

Thursday 6 March 2014

Indooroopilly s Sam Christie nailed a 20-foot putt during a play off with Bill Banks (Royal Canberra Golf Club) and Greg McKay (Cabramatta Golf Club), to win the 2014 Men’sNSW Senior Championship at Tuncurry Golf Club today. The trio all finished the 54-hole event on 230, and with time allowing a play off ensued. One hole was all that was required though, Christie clinching the victory in a nail-biting finish. Christie improved on each day of three day event. Round one he shot 80, improving by four strokes on round two with 76. It was the final round 74 that bought him to top of the leader board. I m thrilled to win this State Championship event remarked Christie in his acceptance speech, especially considering the quality of players that were out there today. Any one of us could have won it today, and I just feel very privileged to have done so. The team from Forster-Tuncurry did a fantastic job in hosting this event, with the Vets crew providing the BBQ for three days, a team of volunteers spotting around the course and representatives from the Club and District providing assistance throughout. Congratulations to all who took part in this year s event. DRAWS AND PLAYER INFORMATION A high quality field of 168 competitors will take to Tuncurry Golf Club (Forster) next week to contest the 2014 Men&aposs NSW Senior Championship. The Championship was open to male amateurs who were 55 years of age or over as at the first day of play, and whose handicap did not exceed 15.4 strokes at the date of entry. This year the event received 235 entries which therefore required a ballot by way of handicap to determine the 168 starters. The cut-off for the ballot was 6.7 and therefore ensures an incredibly competitive field. The event will see a host of recognized golfers competing, including Stephan Albinski, past winners Denis Dale, Brian Sams, Peter King and Bill Banks, plus a number of inter-state competitors who will challenge for the title. The Championship will be stroke play over three rounds of 18-holes (54-holes): Round 1 Tuesday 4 March 2014 Round 2 Wednesday 5 March 2014 Round 3 Thursday 6 March 2014 A seeded draw will be completed for Round 3. The entire field will contest all three rounds. Draws, results and reports will be available daily on the Golf NSW website.
