Rounds 1 and 2 of the Victorian Men’s Par 3 Championship were contested in still conditions at the Kyabram Parkland Golf Club today. A field of 64 players teed it up this morning with their sights set on being the 14th name etched on the perpetual trophy.
The boys from the Yarra Valley have charged to the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes of the championship. Jake Fullerton (Gardiners Run GC) is the outright leader after shooting rounds of 56 and 54 for a 36-hole total of 110. David Walker (The Heritage GC) is trailing close behind on 111 and Darren Makin (Gardiners Run GC) is tied for third with Jasper Stubbs (Huntingdale GC) on 114. Fullerton, playing off a daily handicap of 1, is also 4 shots clear in the A-grade nett heading into the final round tomorrow.
Blair Mason (Riversdale GC) came in with the best B-grade 36-hole gross score. Mason is sitting on 118 (61 and 57) and 3 shots clear of Churchill-Waverley member Caleb Johnson. Mason and Johnson also find themselves atop the leaderboard in the nett division with scores of 108 and 109 respectively. Sitting 2 shots further back is local hope Jamie Baker on 111.
In C-grade, local members Paul McInnes and Jacob Parker are leading the way in the gross competition. McInnes played two steady rounds of 66 and 67 to lead Parker by 1. In the nett competition, McInnes is tied with GenYGolf member Michael Pfeiffer on 109 after both players returned rounds of 54 and 55. Warburton member Simon Spenceley trails by 1 and will be looking to make a move tomorrow.
The third and final round commences at 9:00am tomorrow morning.
