Men’s Pennant Final Tees Off Sunday

Tasmania Golf Club claimed the division one State pennant title in 2012 and will again be represented in what should be a tightly contested finals series this Sunday. The current champions will be loathed to relinquish their hold on the prestigious title, one they have laid claim to for the previous four years. Having three State representatives in division one is a major plus in the team s quest to retain the title. Richard Kube, Andrew Phillips, and State Captain Mark Schulze are all expected to tee up for Tasmania. These three, potentially combined with the likes of Stuart Bonnitcha, Craig Christie, Paul Faulks and Tom Wallace will present a formidable force come Sunday morning. Their opponents in division one, Devonport Golf Club, will be keen to deny Tasmania victory having only won a State pennant on two other occasions. Devonport last laid claim to a State flag on the 13 August 2006 when they defeated a similar Tasmania Golf Club team in division one. Prior to that, Devonport defeated Royal Hobart Golf Club on the 14 July 1968 to claim a division two flag, a feat which quite possibly could be repeated in 2013. The Devonport team this weekend is likely to include Stuart Gray, Paul Kuipers, Greg Leedham, Steven Mathew, Peter Nielson, Ben Perkovic and Scott Read. Kingston Beach Golf Club is hosting the 36-hole finals and both teams regard the contesting of the series on a neutral course as a true test of a team s capabilities. Devonport take on Claremont for another shot at the divisions two title while Tasmania will tackle Launceston Golf Club for the division three crown. Groups tee off in the morning from 7.30am, with the afternoon field starting at 11.30am. Results for the 2013 Tasmanian Men&aposs Pennant Finals can be found here
