Three interstate competitors have equaled the Oates Victorian Open tournament course record on the beach course by scoring eight under par in this morning’s action.
Aaron Townsend (NSW), Matthew Millar (ACT) and Jason Scrivener (WA) combined for 25 birdies at the 13th Beach Golf Links facility recording nine, eight and eight respectively.
However it would be Scrivener who would take the overall lead (-10) ahead of the afternoon group in what he would describe as a ‘stress free’ day.
“I’m very happy with the day as it was a stress free course while yesterday I was very rusty which was not ideal,” said Scrivener.
“I don’t think I had any tough up and downs or tricky puts I just missed a few greens so that aspect was annoying.” He playfully added, “No Eagles, just eight birdies.”
Adding onto Scrivener’s stress free day was his joy of seeing his International friend Ryan Cairns (Zimbabwe) also compete in the tournament.
“I told Ryan [Cairns] to ask for an invite when I was overseas and he did just that so he loves it down here in Victoria,” said Scrivener.
The 25-year-old had already picked out veteran Richard Green as the tournament favourite before the weekend began.
